welcome to our little world...
✿ Fancy spending a day with us?

A Day in the Wonderful Wild!

No two days at Harmony are quite the same. The seasons change, new ideas pop up and nature has a funny habit of surprising us.

But every day is an opportunity to explore, create, connect and grow. So pull on your muddy boots and see what a day might look like!

Our timetable is more of a gentle rhythm than a rulebook! ♡

Good morning, little explorers! 🌞 Time to create something wonderful! 🌱 Something smells delicious! 🔥 The afternoon is full of surprises! 🦋

First Things First... Hello!

As everyone arrives, we take some time to catch up and check in with each other.

It's a gentle beginning, allowing everyone to settle in, share what's on their mind and get ready for the day ahead.

Some days start with a question, others with an idea. There's always room for both.

There's no rush to start an adventure. ♡

Let's Dream, Design & Get Muddy!

Mornings are often spent working on projects shaped by the students' ideas and what the site needs.

We observe nature, draw designs, share ideas and work together to turn plans into something real.

Depending on the season, that might mean planning vegetable beds, building chicken housing or creating a wildlife pond.

Little sketches, big possibilities! ✿

Something Smells Delicious!

Lunchtime brings everyone together around food cooked over the fire.

It's a chance to prepare and share a meal, enjoy each other's company and appreciate the experience of cooking outdoors.

There's something special about slowing down, sharing stories and enjoying food together.

Fresh air makes everything taste better! ♡

What's Hiding in the Hedgerow?

Afternoons might involve nature journaling or walks to study a plant, tree or animal of the week.

Activities change with the seasons as we explore natural resources for food, traditional remedies, creative inspiration and future projects.

And when nature surprises us? Sometimes those unexpected moments make the best lessons of all.

Three Little Ideas, One Big Difference!

Everything we do is guided by the three ethics of permaculture. They're simple ideas that help us care for our planet, one another and the resources we share.

12 Wonderful Ways of Permaculture!

Behind the muddy boots and big ideas are the 12 permaculture design principles. They help us learn from nature, make thoughtful choices and work with the world around us.

Unfold the little field notes to discover them! ↴
1 Observe & Interact

Pay attention to nature and to one another. Observe before making decisions and learn through interaction.

2 Catch & Store Energy

Use the Earth's energy wisely, while also recognising and following children's energy and interests.

3 Obtain a Yield

A reward might be a home-grown carrot, shared fun, a new skill or personal growth.

4 Apply Self-Regulation & Accept Feedback

Don't take too much. Be willing to share, listen to others and learn from feedback.

5 Use & Value Renewable Resources

Make use of renewable resources and take care to use them wisely.

6 Produce No Waste

Reuse materials wherever possible and find useful purposes for resources that might otherwise be wasted.

7 Design from Patterns to Details

Notice the patterns nature has already created and use those observations to guide our designs.

8 Integrate Rather Than Segregate

Grow different plants together and collaborate with others towards shared goals.

9 Use Small & Slow Solutions

Take a thoughtful approach. Small steps can lead to meaningful, lasting results.

10 Use & Value Diversity

Celebrate biodiversity and the diversity of people. Differences can bring wonderful strengths.

11 Use Edges & Value the Marginal

Look closely at boundaries and overlooked spaces, where so much life and possibility can be found.

12 Creatively Use & Respond to Change

Stay flexible, embrace new opportunities and adapt when circumstances or nature changes.

Where Our Inspiration Grows 🌱

Harmony draws inspiration from John Muir, Charlotte Mason, Forest School, permaculture and other holistic approaches to education and everyday life.

The Best Days Don't Always Go to Plan!

That's part of the magic. We follow the seasons, listen to one another, welcome fresh ideas and make room for unexpected discoveries along the way.
